Ghosts have left - The privé of the wine is coming

In the heart of Tuscany, at 35 km from Firenze, at 20 km from Siena and directly on Piazza del Duomo stands the Torre degli Useppi, historical residence, where Pierluigi Giachi of Tenuta Torciano organizes meetings and special events for wine lovers, in this evocative medieval building.

What is it about? It is a historical residence with private medieval tower, at disposal of those who appreciate the small differences and love to taste the vintage wines by family Giachi “in a unique and exclusive place, historical but with modern comforts, charming and discreet”. Obviously these “wine privé” are more expensive than in other places, but they represents rare and unforgettable occasions, unique of their kind.

The tower and the rooms are furnished with old furniture and objects, while the wines are the Gran Cru’ of Italian oenology which have printed on their visit card prizes and reviews as “best wines in Italy”. All around there are buildings and standing towers, medieval monuments, cardinals, knights, ladies and Italian artists ofRenaissance. Each meeting is dedicated to wine lovoers, to managers and vips, secrets and confidences among important men of the global age. In this wonderful historical building I meet Mr. Giachi, owner of five farms in Tuscany and descendant of a family that was wine-producer since 1720. I am his guest and he reserved an exclusive wine-tasting for me in this gem of the Italian Middle Ages.

The tower was erected in the year 1200, it was witness of the bloody wars between Guelfi and Ghibellini and it suffered their exploits so it was set on fire and then partly cut off, because of the strict laws existing at that time. Once the owner was the noble and brave family Useppi. The XVIII-century furniture is simple and elegant, with armchairs, sofas and curtains made with precious and refined Florentine fabrics. Guests can sit down where they prefer in the arch of sofas and armchairs like in a medieval Court. Here guests will have a welcome cocktail, overlooking Piazza del Duomo with Collegiata, one of the most famous squares in the world. Here it is in use the stillness, the silence and the exclusivity. Here you don’t meet queens and kings only but couples on honey-moon, husband and wife, managers incognito. You get there going along flights of steps made of ancient stone.

Everything is concealed in Palazzo Useppi, rooms and living-rooms like in a small labyrinth. I am in a living room in the tower, I appear, I am very high, the square with its monuments and the surrounding countryside, sink under me. I don’t know who is my neighbour and I don’t know in which living room he is and were the other rooms are. I suddenly notice the presence of a ghost, perhaps it is the Conte Useppi: it seems like a dream. The noises of the chainsdon’t wake me up but the sweet and delicate smells of the wine the Mr. Giachi let me taste. The wonderful light of this spring afternoon intensify its warm and bright colours, the medieval and romantic environment intensify its senses. The bells of the basilica of Collegiata intensify its sounds, all around is music.

Mr. Giachi explains to me that ghosts are not here, but they are out of these walls, the ghosts of the traffic, of the queues, of the smog, of the mass-media. Here, in this tower, you will never meet them. He light a cigar, behind of him there is a 3 meters deep wall and a gap of 50 meters. The wine is in crystal glasses which reflect the silverware, the paintings and the unforgettable experience that you have visiting this place.
