Our Story: The Giachi Family

Founded in 1720 in Ulignano, near San Gimignano, Tenuta Torciano represents more than 300 years and thirteen generations of the Giachi family’s Tuscan winemaking tradition. Today, Pierluigi Giachi, Luciana Cilemmi and Emanuele Bartolomeo Giachi continue this heritage through wine production, vineyard care and authentic Tuscan hospitality.

From its historic winery in San Gimignano, the family has developed a collection of wineries, vineyards, olive groves and hospitality destinations in renowned Tuscan wine areas including Chianti Classico, Montalcino, Montepulciano, Bolgheri, Scansano and Murlo.

Tenuta Torciano Winery is the historic home of the Giachi family in Ulignano, near San Gimignano, Tuscany. Founded in 1720, the estate brings together more than 300 years and thirteen generations of Tuscan winemaking. GREVE IN CHIANTI, TUSCANY

Tenuta Torciano’s Chianti Classico vineyards are located near Greve in Chianti, within one of Tuscany’s best-known wine territories. The hilly landscape and seasonal climate support Sangiovese, the principal grape of Chianti Classico. These vineyards connect the Giachi family’s production to a historic appellation known for structured red wines, freshness, savory character and aging potential. The property is part of a wider collection of Tuscan vineyard sites selected to express the differences between each territory, grape-growing environment and local winemaking tradition.

MONTALCINO VINEYARDS

MONTALCINO, TUSCANY

The Giachi family vineyards in Montalcino are connected to the territory of Brunello di Montalcino and Rosso di Montalcino, two of Tuscany’s most recognized Sangiovese-based wines. The area’s elevated hills, sunlight and long growing season contribute to wines known for structure, aromatic complexity and the ability to mature over time. POGGIO MORETO WINERY & VINEYARDS

Poggio Moreto is a historic winery and vineyard estate in Scansano, in the Maremma Grossetana, acquired by Tenuta Torciano in 2024. Located between the Tyrrhenian coast and the inland hills, the property belongs to the Morellino di Scansano territory and includes vineyards planted mainly with Sangiovese, together with complementary and experimental grape varieties. Its hilltop setting, Mediterranean influence and dedicated winemaking cellar make Poggio Moreto an important production site within the Giachi family estates and a reference point for Morellino di Scansano DOCG.

BOLGHERI VINEYARDS

BOLGHERI, TUSCANY

Tenuta Torciano’s Bolgheri estate is located along the Via Bolgherese, in the heart of the Bolgheri DOC production area near Castagneto Carducci. This coastal part of Tuscany is internationally associated with refined red blends, Bordeaux grape varieties, Super Tuscan wines and Mediterranean-influenced viticulture. Sea breezes, sunlight and the character of the local soils shape wines known for depth, elegance and balance. The Bolgheri property expands the Giachi family’s presence into one of Italy’s most prestigious modern wine regions.

MONTEPESCINI VINEYARDS

MURLO, TUSCANY

Montepescini Vineyards are located near Murlo, in the province of Siena, within a quiet and less-traveled area of the Tuscan countryside. The estate reflects the Giachi family’s search for distinctive vineyard sites where altitude, exposure and local climatic conditions can give wines an individual identity. Surrounded by wooded hills and rural landscapes, Montepescini represents the more intimate side of Tuscan viticulture and contributes grapes, history and territorial character to the broader Tenuta Torciano wine collection.

MONTEPULCIANO VINEYARDS

MONTEPULCIANO, TUSCANY

Tenuta Torciano’s Montepulciano vineyards are connected to the production areas of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG and Rosso di Montepulciano DOC. The territory is historically associated with Prugnolo Gentile, the local name for Sangiovese, often accompanied by traditional Tuscan grape varieties. Wines from this area are valued for red-fruit aromas, mineral notes, freshness, structured tannins and the ability to develop with aging. These vineyards allow the Giachi family to represent another major expression of Sangiovese within southern Tuscany.

POGGIOAICIELI VINEYARDS

SAN GIMIGNANO, TUSCANY

Poggioaicieli Vineyards are located near Tenuta Torciano in the San Gimignano countryside and are closely associated with Vernaccia di San Gimignano. This historic Tuscan white grape variety is known for freshness, citrus and floral notes, savory minerality and the capacity to evolve with bottle age. The vineyard’s position and local growing conditions contribute to the character of Vernaccia Poggioaicieli, connecting the wine directly to the landscape and winemaking identity of San Gimignano. It is one of the Giachi family’s key vineyard sites for Tuscan white wine.
