San Galgano Complex
Sustainable architecture

Torciano San Galgano Wine Hub

Torciano San Galgano in San Gimignano is a complex of approximately 12,000 sqm that rises in the Tuscan countryside, conceived based on high landscape criteria and high energy efficiency, born from the Winery's desire to combine the excellence of its product with the realization of an architectural sign of great aesthetic and environmental value.

The surrounding 5-hectare land will host vineyards, gardens, educational cultivation areas for the school of agricultural arts and crafts. The complex will house executive and administrative offices, restaurants, wineries, tasting rooms and wine tourism activities, a production warehouse and laboratories for wine-making, botanical, gardening and horticulture arts and crafts, with the goal of fully expressing the exceptional quality and high standards of the brand.

Project Concept

The project concept defined in the preliminary phase aimed to establish conditions for renewed collaboration between architecture and environment. The characteristics of the site, marked by the exploitation logic of the paper industry, required a remediation intervention and suggested the opportunity to interpret the realization of the production complex as an occasion to establish virtuous dynamics of territorial management.

Connection and Socialization

A "backbone" connecting the spaces, with transparent and panoramic walls, also visually connects the different functions and promotes circulation and socialization of people.

Interior spaces

Dialogue with Nature

The architecture of the buildings of the historic San Galgano Paper Mill thus enters into an open dialogue with the surrounding nature of the agricultural area: the building, apparently hypogeal thanks to the landscape choice of creating vineyards and gardens, a continuous and intensive green space, becomes an integrated ecological system that reconstructs the land's morphology and restores form to the original area.

Development and Growth

Until now, Tenuta Torciano winery has relied on its San Gimignano wineries, whose spaces are no longer sufficient to meet the brand's needs. With the new Torciano San Galgano Wine hub, 150 new workers will arrive in the first three years who will be hired to carry out all the activities that will be performed in the new 12,000 sqm facility.

The Giachi family confirms the San Gimignano district and Tuscany in general as an essential production hub for the universe of wine and wine tourism and gastronomic hospitality.

The Giachi Family's Vision

An ambitious project that represents the future of Tuscan food and wine excellence, where tradition and innovation meet to create an international reference hub in the heart of Tuscany.
