Wine Description:

This wine is made exclusively from Sangiovese grapes, cultivated in hilly areas with good exposure and harvested by hand at an altitude of 400m a.s.l.

The first great official vintage of this wine was that of 1888.

2018 vintage has a deep ruby red color with a persistent, expressing bouquet that have characteristic cent of forest fruits. The flavor is wam and dry, with an evident character; calm and aristocratic hints of wood can be perceived amidst the typical herbaceous notes.

We suggest roast pork with mushrooms for this wine for its prime quality and structure that demand first courses of pasta and risotto with sauces made from wild boar and meat, main courses of roast noble and common game and mature cheeses.

Area of Production:

Montalcino in the province of Siena, famous for its history and natural and artistic beauty.  It was born in the same defined area as its bigger brother, the Brunello di Montalcino DOCG. Both are situated in the heart of Tuscany, in central region of Italy. This DOC was created in 1984 in order to make the most of the fruit from younger vines of new plantings. The idea was to create a fresher style of wine that needed considerably less ageing time (one year with only six months in oak) than its sibling Brunello.

Grapes:

Rosso di Montalcino like its Brunello di Montalcino sibling, it is a full-bodied wine crafted from pure Sangiovese (in this case, the local "Grosso" form). However it is considered a more vivacious style of wine, combining freshness with structure, and can be approached at a much earlier age.
